Daniel Boddam’s Virtual Paris Apartment

Australian architect and designer Daniel Boddam has launched an interactive virtual showroom in the form of a Paris apartment, a Haussmann-style space outfitted with his new collection as well as several existing pieces

Sydney-based architect and designer Daniel Boddam has become known for his considered approach to simplicity. Having established his architecture studio in 2013, Boddam has since broadened his practice to include furniture design, a passion he’s held since childhood thanks to his architect parents.

The Geo collection of tables, launched earlier this year, was inspired by the raw yet robust Australian landscape and is defined by an unconventional process of rammed concrete, while the Coast collection of seating and lighting, first launched in 2019, references the ocean in idyllic Byron Bay, where Boddam lives.

Travel has also always been an inspiration for Boddam, whose mother hails from Venezuela. With Australia’s borders closed for the foreseeable future, the designer has responded to the current situation by creating an interactive virtual showcase, a typical Haussmann-style apartment in Paris, to be exact, as a way to showcase his new designs. The apartment is now open for touring on Boddam’s website.

Other pieces to be discovered in the apartment include the Wave sofa and chair, inspired by the rhythm of rolling waves, and the Oscar console, its curved edges and architectural presence inspired by iconic Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer.

The combination of a stately Parisienne interior and rough-luxe furniture from Australia may not sound obvious, but Boddam says it’s this tension and contrast that is poetic. ‘The immediately familiar Haussman vernacular heightens the “Australianness” of the furniture,’ he says.
