Heritage with an Edge

‘The client was excited about the opportunity to pay homage to the existing architecture, yet inject a contemporary sensibility,’ says Brendan Wong about the residence he designed for a family of five in Sydney. ‘It was clear we were not filling this home with faux Victorian antiques.’

To achieve this, Wong mixes family heirlooms, like a baroque piano, and contemporary bespoke pieces and artwork along with subtle hints at the 1940s and 1970s. When they all come together, these elements give the feeling of an interior that has been assembled over a period of time. 'It's not just then and now' says Wong, 'but everything in between.’
