Design Trust’s Annual Fundraising Gala and Auction Return

Design Trust’s Annual Fundraising Gala and Auction Return

Hong Kong charity Design Trust’s annual gala will see 45 lots of exceptional art, furniture and other limited-edition pieces auctioned to raise funds for ongoing design research, community projects and cross-cultural programmes

Hong Kong charity, grant funding and community platform Design Trust will hold its annual fundraising gala on Saturday 18 March at the newly reopened Regent Hong Kong, which has been reimagined by eminent designer Chi Wing Lo — who also happens to be the curator of the Design Trust Gala 2023. Under the curatorial theme The Art of Presence, the event aims to support and gather the Hong Kong and Greater Bay Area design communities.

The cornerstone of the event is a live and silent auction of 42 lots of limited-edition art, furniture and decorative items and exclusive experiences generously donated by designers, artists and friends of Design Trust.

‘The theme of this year’s gala evokes deepened awareness, resilience, mindful presence and the importance of connection with our Hong Kong-based and international community,’ says Marisa Yiu, the co-founder, lead curator and executive director of Design Trust. ‘I truly hope many will support our work by bidding and winning extraordinary art and other donations from world-renowned architects and Design Trust alumni.’

Highlights include a crystal sculpture by Zaha Hadid Design and Lalique Asia Limited, the Specimen coffee table by Hong Kong-based design duo Batten and Kamp, a series of four photographs titled Hong Kong Walk On by local artist Stanley Wong, a pair of cloisonné paper weights by Chi Wing Lo, paintings by Hong Kong architect William Lim, Chinese artists Wang Jiajia and Zhu Jinshi, and many more.

All fundraising proceeds will go towards research grants for craft, cultural innovation and public programming, with the aim to support and promote the growth of influential voices in the design community.
