Turkish design firm Autoban raises the bar in clubhouse design

For a long moment, furniture and interiors studio Autoban has been the face of modern design in Istanbul, a city where modern design is on a precipitous ascent. Celebrated for their design of cafés and hotels for The House Hotel Group, their own chic furniture showroom, and shops for Turkish fashion house Vakko, in December the studio unveiled the moody, syncopated visuals of Istanbul restaurant Gaspar and this year will complete Azerbaijan’s Heydar Aliyev International Airport VIP terminal.

But it was 2013’s Ulus Savoy Club House, in a residential complex designed by local architect Emre Arolat, that marked a shift in the Autoban vernacular towards grander, complexly layered gestures and crisper forms.
