Rosewood Sanya by AB Concept
China’s picturesque Haitang Bay gets a luxe upgrade in hospitality
Known for its cerulean seascape and striking views, Sanya’s Haitang Bay has always offered a glimpse of China’s natural beauty. The perfect location for a seaside escape, the southernmost tip of Hainan Island is also now the setting for the Rosewood brand’s first foray into Mainland China.
Designed by Hong Kong-based firm AB Concept, the Rosewood Sanya offers travelers a relaxing getaway unlike most. With tranquil spaces that offer guests a private and intimate home away from home, this non-traditional resort marries the majestic views of Haitang Bay with the precise craftsmanship and meticulous detailing upon which AB Concept’s Ed Ng and Terence Ngan have built their practice.
With 360-degree sea vistas complemented by soft taupe and lush cream interiors, guests are able to enjoy an unencumbered and undisturbed view. All throughout the space, a unique interplay between culture and nature is at work, while sea and sky make for the perfect backdrop to the property’s well-curated collection that infuses the interiors from the lobby through to the 14th-floor sky terrace.
In keeping with its promise to deliver off the cuff rooms and well-designed spaces, accommodations at the Rosewood veer away from traditional hotel spaces. Instead, suites and guestrooms are more personable and cosy. From private dip pools in the suites to communal barbecue areas, from the luxurious finishings in the guestrooms to the perfectly framed vistas, guests can be assured of above par comfort and style.
In the resort’s public areas, a living room-like space with plush seating, fully stocked bookshelves and a tea bar offers guests a space to unwind and relax. Rosewood’s dining establishments also offer a varied array of food choices and architectural styles; a local fish market experience awaits at Fishmonger, where interiors feature raw, reclaimed wood and exposed pipes. The Chop House, on the other hand, hinges on the juxtaposition of indoor and outdoor, with sliding door shutters that open out to the pool area, allowing guests to take in the fresh sea breeze.
With Rosewood Sanya, Haitang Bay finally gets an architectural oeuvre to match its majestic views.
